Yeah Crikeys that’s a chain gang of a production line.
Just the noise levels of continuous background power tools whirring would drive most people crazy.

I'd actually go as far as to saying that's a decent factory for China. Have seen much worse in terms of conditions, safety and tooling quality.

I'm surprised that people may be shocked by it.

The only difference with the upmarket brands is proper tooling and quality components. Mass production is mass production.

Yes Michael, I agree - that is a perfectly normal looking, if a little rudimentary production line.

There appears to be proper painted line markings, zoned areas, reasonable (if basic) tooling. It is almost certainly more "manual" than a modern big-brand production line, and I certainly wouldn't be trusting the "torque" settings of bolts etc.

But to me (I have been in manufacturing either as maintenance engineer/manager or production/plant manager since 1996) it looks reasonably OK from what I see in the video. I have seen worse here in Australia.

I think that many people don't really know or even think about how many of the products they buy actually get made.

Mate was telling me today, his big chainring is noticeably crooked, he doesn't feel safe riding down a modest hill - which may just be himself , the three speed crankset only has a two speed shifter, and he can't crosschain past gear 4 (it's a 7 speed). Won't be long before it's landfill

But , yeah, as far as factories goes, it all looks fine.

The work processes are pretty much the same as the production lines in the factories I worked in during the early 1970's. At least the Chinese workers all seem to be wearing gloves for protection.

Western Europe was in the grip of a major heatwave. It was about mid-30s every day for a few weeks, and the temperature at Col du Galibier was an astonishing 25 deg C, pretty unusual given its elevation of 2642m. The "usual" temperature rules (1 deg C temperature drop per 100m climbed) still applied, i.e. the valley temperatures (e.g. at Valloire) were in the mid-30s.

Actually, this one's even better, the descent on this side is nothing short of spectacular:

That’s crazy - hardly ever see those high temps at top of Galibier - even last year when it was stinking hot down in the valleys it was cool at the top.

It was high 30C and low 40C temps last year. At the top of Col du Telegraphe it was 41°C, same in Huez village. I remember going out walking at 6pm and immediately ran back to get the sunscreen because I was burning.
