So I have bicycle insurance through velosure, is it worth taking out a westcycle membership?

They've a few different offerings but one includes liability insurance: that's the biggie for me. If I center punch someone's new Merc it could get expensive quickly.

And then there's the issue of accidents that aren't on a "roadway" and may note be covered by the WA government liability insurance. (IANAL but the wording on the wa.gov.au site is pretty vague around this)

Supporting Westcycle with your membership also helps support speaking truth to power in government in a way that localised volunteer advocacy can never match. Much of what happens locally is driven by what happens at State policy level. Having full-time people available during business hours for government meetings has a disproportionate impact.

Examples from NSW (my patch) include
1: the rewrite of the cycling facilities cookbook referenced by local councils to pick up current and developing best practice, a majpr achievement of which was killing off the dreaded door zone "murder strip"
2: TfNSW's Road User Space Allocation policy, which puts walking and cycling first and private motor vehicles last in order of consideration.

Without those two major policy shifts, into which BNSW had major input behind the scenes, we'd still be battling a car-brained policy framework that maintains the private motor vehicle as the apex predator on our roads. Now, we still have to fight insurgencies at the local level, but we at least have a fighting chance.

These two are major things in getting more people riding right now, although the advocates of a certain three letter cycling related policy will disagree.
