Strava subscription

Postby warthog1 » Mon May 08, 2023 12:39 pm

I am a premium member of Strava. I like some of the perks it gives you over the free version.
There is a price increase on the way.
When I open the Android app it has a splash up the top that tells me to "agree to new price" by May 18th to keep my "subscription active".
Unfortwhen I click the link it takes me to Google Play who say I don't have any subscriptions.
I have been onto Strava Support who, after much back and forth, tell me the subscription is active on their end.
I am assuming I will have to contact the even more faceless operation that is Google Play.

Anybody else had a similar issue and managed to resolve it?

I got an email telling me about the price increase, never had to click on anything to agree.
New payment went through without issue

My subscription has nothing to do with Google Play. Strava has my credit card details and will automatically renew my subscription in August unless I say otherwise.
I need to log into my desktop computer account to manage the payment.

I can't remember how I paid for the damn thing. It is yearly too and probably was my debit card.
I will have to search through my Debit account and find out.
Dunno why that alert came up at the top of my app on the phone and tablet if so though.

If you check your account on Strava it shows the method of payment in my case PayPal

Mine is set to auto renew in June at $79.99 USD which I think is dearer than the Aus Currency Member renewal of I think AUS $99.99
My membership is set to USD as I joined in 2011 before AU specific membership in AU Currency was available.

I am planning to change to AU resident membership which according to their FAQ's requires:
"At this time there is no way to switch your currency while keeping an active subscription. First, visit your Account page and cancel your subscription. You then will need to wait for your subscription to end on the listed date, then you can re-subscribe in your local currency.
Please note that you will not lose any data by canceling your subscription. You will only lose access to the paid features temporarily when your subscription expires. Access to those features will be turned back on once you re-subscribe."

I am a bit concerned of loosing my history. Has anyone done this successfully?

Thanks.
I am using a tablet and it said to check my subscription via the Web. Did that, it doesn't say how it was paid.
On my debit card acct I paid $81.99 in late May last year.
The damn app now says my subscription will be cancelled on 19th of this month. That happened after I contacted Google Play.
Pita of a system I have to say.

I am on there on my wife's imac now.
Gone into profile-settings.
There is no Billing info section on there anywhere.
Down the bottom under the About column I can click subscription.
That brings up no.thing basically.
When I click on "settings" "My account" comes up.
It says I have been a subscriber since 3/18/12.
Nope. Probably a member of strava that long but only subscribed for 2 or 3 years.
I've emailed them again.
Will see what they come back with.

Unfortunately that doesn't help in my case as it only displays US prices as my membership apparently is registered as US even though I have never set foot in the country let alone resided there.
If you are registered in and pay in Aus could you please advise what the Aus price is?

I have changed my email address, since I became a paid subscriber.
My wife uses the original one so I changed to one I use.
Have been through those steps on that link multiple times on Android and via Web. Doesn't reveal a solution to my problem.

Worth googling a bit and seeing the T&C’s and what data they collect

Some of it is quite restrictive -

Your device (phone, computer, GPS watch) is not covered if it is more than 2 years old. You must be able to provide proof of purchase AND serial number of the device. If the device still works despite being damaged you can't make a claim. There is a $100 excess.

Despite all my emails my subscription lapsed.
There was a banner saying 44% discount to subscribe at $100aud. So I did through PayPal.
If they charge $140+ next year I may drop it.

Strava generated $275 million revenue in 2023, a 25% increase on the previous year
In 2023, Strava had 120 million registered users, with two million added every month
Two billion activities were completed on Strava in 2022

Getting annoyed with “The Strava Club” spamming my feed with their announcements.

I don’t pay a membership to but hit with their spam.

Strava is also doing “Recommended by Strava” posts that appear in your feed regardless of what settings you have, even clubs you aren’t a member of. Even for paying customers.

I blasted them over it and threatened that I’d cancel and retain TrainingPeaks only.

They said they would pass the feedback on, but who knows.

It makes Strava annoying.

What are you using to view strava?
I only use phone and tablet. I just scroll straight past any nonsense I aint interested in.
Tbh I pay no attention to it. Perhaps it comes from using Android, as we are spammed more than Apple I believe, so you just learn to filter it out.

Phone app. If I am not subscribed to a club then I don’t want to know about it.

If I have to just “filter it out” then I’ll just filter them out of my list of subscriptions. Let them spam the free Strava users, but the whole idea of paying for a subscription is not to get advertising nonsense.

Who tripped over the power cable at Strava...
Strava is temporarily unavailable

We hit a road block, but our team is working on an alternate route.

Check Strava Status for more information. Thanks for your patience.
