Tiagra SL-4700 flat bar shifters compatibility with GRX10

Postby Ballmead » Sat Aug 27, 2022 1:28 pm

I'm thinking of installing a GRX10 groupset on my Merida Speeder 100 flatbar road bike.
The GRX front derailleur is a little further spaced out to allow for larger tyres so I'm wondering if Tiagra SL-4700 shifters will work with the GRX front and rear derailleurs?
Specifically if the Tiagra shifter's front derailleur pull will be sufficient.

The current Shimano compatibility chart SL-4700 shifters are compatible with FD-RX400 and RD-RX400 (10 speed GRX)

The big difference between GRX FD and crankset over 4700 Tiagra is that it is moved out by 2.5mm for wider chainline. If you keep you Tiagra crank you need to keep you Tiagra FD, if you shift to GRX crank need GRX FD.

Awesome, that's what I wanted to hear. Thank you for your reply.
I'll be buying all GRX 10speed parts, just needed to know if the Tiagra shifters would work with them.

Um, not sure about your bike specs but if you are going from a 3 x to a 2 x up front that could cause some dramas.

I've decided to go the GRX 1x11 route instead.

All the required parts are on their way to me now.

I went for a GRX-RX600 40T crank set, SLX M8000 11-42T cassette, 105 SL-RS700 11 speed flat bar shifter and a GRX RD-RX812 11 Speed 1x rear derailleur.

I'll post up a few pictures and a review after I fit everything and go for a ride.
