Looking for a forking good time...

Postby mr_bopperleaner » Fri Apr 08, 2022 6:00 pm

I happen to have an older fork that is simply not being used - https://whiskyparts.co/forks/no7_cx_disc_tapered. As such, i thought i might be able to build a commuter / pub bike with it.
Being a 1 ½” Tapered design, I'm having a hard time trying to find a cheapish road disc frame (new and used) to match.

Has anyone got experience with sites in searching for a bike frame for specific features. I know that certain 2016/2017 road models supported these headset standards.

I can't point to specific models, but you need to find a frame with a 44mm bore headtube. This size will allow the mix-up of different-sized upper and lower assemblies due to using pressed-in cups to seat the bearings, rather than having the bearings directly mounted in the frame. A "Zero Stack" ZS44 top assembly will fit the frame and aside from the 2mm or so cup flange will fully sit inside the head tube. At the bottom an "external cup" EC44 assembly will enable the use of the larger-diameter bearing by placing the bearing outside the head tube, effectively increasing the head tube length by the depth of the bearing.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.
