City based large 4WD owners are more often than not; beer drinking, fat, middle aged males who are morally conservative, homophobic, rascist, selfish, intolerant, aggressive and belligerent.
Yep, about meets with my casual observations.

I’ve read this, and have to admit I’m surprised. But not surprised sort of. There’s a few holes in the thing and some info missing but the results are there. I can see the behaviour observed happening too.

I’d like to see the same thing done with drivers using their own vehicles. Reckon there’d be a different outcome, but maybe not.

Look for the subheading on cycling infrastructure. Of course, our state and federal governments are convinced they're supporting cyclists better than any country in the world, and are mostly blind to any suggestion it might actually be otherwise.

Yes please, they are in London too. Some of the four-cylinder tuned up shopping trolleys just sound like crap. These guys have never heard a really nice sounding machine like an F355 or a classic air-cooled 911. Even the Aston Martin Valkyrie with 11,100rpm and 1000hp from its V12 (with another 160hp electric boost on top of 1000hp) doesn't do those stupid look at me exhaust mapping.

best thing, is, to show Drivers they are the one who gets subsidised, and most comes from general tax. And for those shouting socialist or commy, hit back with selling off the roads for profit and get hit with tolls instead of taxes like West connex so roads churn out profit (Well, as it stands, there is a 40 billion loss as fuel and rego combined are 20 billion, while the cost is 60 billion)

it gets me thinking about transit which are forced to be profitable, why not treat the roads to be the same if you really want free market capitalism, no socialism and paying your fair share, not burdening the society.

I remember riding on George Street in the old days, it wasn’t so bad but never been on it nowadays.

I reached out to the government regarding their new strategies for cycleways and the like, never got a response.

One of The Age's rare articles proposing various measures to reduce car use and slow down cars, the comments are pretty depressing, though. It's pretty clear cycling will never really take off here, there's too much anti-cyclist prejudice.

In Brisbane, the Bicentennial bikeway is Brisbanes busiest bikeway, with typically 6000 movements a day (plus pedestrians). It's currently blocked by a floating restaurant which washed onto the bikeway. It's apparently going to be difficult to move so it's going to be some time (no one has said how long). More weeks or months than days.

Anyway, the 750m diversion is onto a footpath which is probably barely half a metre wide. It's not wide enough for two people to pass normally.. without one stopping and leaning over the guard rail onto the road. There are a couple of wide bits where there are light poles which are the best passing opportunities.

So, the bike advocates asked for one lane of the five car lanes as a temporary bikeway until the bikeway is open again. They replied nicely but firmly that while they liked people using bikes for transport, they prefer not to potentially inconvenience people driving cars. So just no.

A nice reminder of Brisbane Car Councils priorities.

Mate, gimme a chance and I’m all in on this one! One of the glaringly obvious hypocrisies hereabouts is the need for speed, in any form of transport. Add to that that somehow the drivers of these vehicles are capable of using them with absolute safety while no one else can operate their choice of vehicle with any degree of safety or responsibility? And they get a pass on this? Bollocks.

Its a hobby. Same like many of us buying the latest road bike and time trial bike then hung it up near the dining table so you can boast about it to your family members and colleagues.

AAA seems to be a bit in the middle. While drivers mostly want cheaper fuel and reduced excise, AAA say the opposite.

It also seems they prop up rail and public transport too.

I think this Ukraine-Russia war could be nail in the coffin for big oilgas and big auto with so many transit and cycling advocates getting louder and showing their case.

Think AAA knows that reducing transport spending will mean private motorised transport budget will be cut, so they try to play safe

I spend enough on my bicycles such that they're easier to ride (within reasonable price limits, of course). My choice of vehicle doesn't put bystanders in significant danger, because I'm in no danger of exceeding speed limits by as wide a margin as motor racers can (and do). So it's not really a valid comparison, there are too many differences between the 2 modes of transport.
