Hello All,
I've recently had my Trek FX 2 stolen and need to purchase a new bike. I commute/ride to work which is around 7-10 kms each way 5-6 days per week. I'm wanting a flat bar road bike that is around the $800-$1000 price range.
I'm thinking of buying the Merrida Speeder 100 from 99 bikes for around $900, but i'm also considering
*Trek FX3,
*Marin fairfax city 3
* Giant cross city disc 2
If anyone could provide some guidance on best value bikes for this price range or on the bikes listed that'd be fantastic.

The standard reply to a question like this is - which of the bikes is available to buy in your frame size (because stocks are very low and presumably you don't want to wait for months) and have you tried any of them for fit ?
I just dropped on to the 99Bikes site searched for a Merida Speeder 100 size MD/LG and found everywhere I looked (Brisbane, Melbourne & Sydney) to be out of stock.
Finding a bike in stock is likely to narrow your choice significantly.

Almost same answer from me. Ultimately there is little difference between the major brands at the same price point. Ultimately what is ‘better’ on X will be offset by what is ‘better’ on Y. Eg It depends wether the marketing department thinks the punters will choose a premium derailleur, an extra gear or two or carbon forks. Of course, you can move up the model chain and get all 3 for more $!
Put your butt on a few and pick your favourite. Most important is fit and feel. Second most important is you liking the look of it.
