Which tubeless tyres for Dura Ace C50

Postby Warnesy » Wed Nov 24, 2021 12:13 pm

As the title says just keen to hear some views. Pretty sure it is time to go tubeless on the new bike. I’ve settled on the C50 wheels as a good all rounder so question is which tyres should I go for? Planning to put 28 on rather than 25.

GP5000 TL are pretty great if you can get them on. Hold air well, fast and decent puncture resistance.

The model of wheels is pretty irrelevant, your riding objectives are more crucial. Your frame & fork clearance will dictate whether you can fit 28mm or not. Industry-standard maximum tyre size for any frame or fork is calculated from a minimum 4mm gap around the tyre.

Continental have a long-standing reputation for being on the fat side of their stated size, so bear that in mind if you're pushing your frame/fork clearance. That said, the GP5000 does find a good balance between speed & durability, but you do need very strong thumbs to get them on!

Schwalbe Pro One TLE are also very good, similar performance/durability balance to the GP5000, and closer in actual size to what's stated, so clearance is more reliable.

Vittoria Corsa are fast but fragile, while the Rubino range is tougher, but handling tails off; the Control variant is similar in behaviour to the GP5000 and Pro One, while the Endurance variant is even tougher, but loses grip and efficiency in exchange.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

Thanks. Riding will be all on road and the frame will clear up to 34mm. I want something that is fast, light, grippy and last a long time… I don’t ask for much

The tyre needs to be narrower than the rim for the best aero performance.
More important on the front wheel.
I believe your wheels are 28mm ext?
Mine are similar at 27.5.
Using GP5KTL 25 on the front and 28 on the rear. Very, very happy with them. I would go so far as to say best tyres I have used in the last 110k km according to my strava acct.
Went on by hand too, though others using different wheels have had trouble.
No longer made now though :(
Replaced by GP5KS TR.
I think they are hard to get at the moment but test well also.

Had a great run out of GP5000 TL, 6500 puncture free km until I got glassed big time a couple of days ago.
I was thinking it was time to replace them anyway as getting low.
Because the new GP5000 TR's are difficult to get, have fitted up some Rubino Pro's to try out

Yep, that's what I have.
Rode them this morning and felt OK. Not perfect roads so can't tell speed, but seemed OK.
Felt nice at 75 psi (25mm) .
