Hi all,
Anyone with experience with the Cube SL rode (flat bar) bike or Cube bikes in general?
I was initially after the Specialized Sirrus X 2.0 (I like the single front drivetrain) but noticed that the Cube is a Carbon fork, seem lighter and probably better value.

Thoughts?
Thanks

First post from a long term lurker who happens to won two Cube bikes….
The brands with lop-level exposure are often quite a bit more expensive than others for the same drivetrain and wheel level. If a friend was asking I would direct them to the Giant or Merida models in the style of bike they were looking for. If they still had an itch to scratch I would say look at brands other brands that provide good value like Cube, Norco etc, perhaps Canyon if they are up to direct order.
Personally I’ve found the Cubes to be well thought-out and good value:

Personally I’ve found the Cubes to be well thought-out and good value:
- I bought a Cube Attain carbon road bike five years ago after riding a nice sporty Giant flatbar for a long time and deciding I wanted a drop bar road bike. 25000km or so and nothing required beyond regular maintenance required. The only changes from stock are a saddle that works for my sit bones and upgraded tyres when it was time to replace.
- Replaced the Giant flat bar with a previous model Cube flatbar after the frame cracked at the seat tube (I may have been loading it up too much treating it as a touring bike when it wasn’t). The Cube is a bit chunkier than the Giant, which works for me now. I’ve swapped out some components and set it up as a bit of a tourer/gravel multi-purpose bike. Looking at the pics the current model looks like a more refined alloy frame than the one I have.

11kgs almost, is kindof heavy.
But my beef/concern is disc brakes on a cheap bike like this are quite inappropriate. Makes it disproportionately heavy and expensive, and brings very little/nothing in return. Plus, these cheap bikes have cheaper wheels that always break. Disc wheels are even more exe to replace, and you can't use your old bikes wheels.
I guess that doesn't worry the suppliers and dealers though, who are just turning a buck.
Under-used good nick 2nd hand bikes are definitely the way to go at this level.
Sorry for the downer
But if you like how it looks and rides, go for it
All bikes are good. And the wider road tyres are probably a good thing. The old "23mm on a hybrid" was way too skinny.

Yet it's also not too heavy. I have an 11kg aluminium with CF fork disc drop bar commuter and a 13.5kg steel flat bar V-brake commuter with full guards and a rear rack. Gear it right and don't expect to set high average speeds and you're fine. It is a good point above about the wheels - first thing I changed on my disc commuter was the wheels for a better, lightly used 2nd-hand set with sealed bearing hubs, less beef and better quality spokes. Changed the whole ride for the better.
That said, Cube make good stuff from what I've seen. I've never owned one but seen a few of their roadies up close ong roup rides, always struck me as nicely finished. Can't see why they would want to dilute that quality by dumbing down their lower ranges like some brands.

I ride a Cube Agree - well spec'd for the price, rides really nicely, stiff and handles well.
Downsides - poor predelivery check from the LBS, suffered several loose spokes, loose shifters, a few rattles, creaks in the bottom bracket, jammed shifter.

I really should take up cycling!

I've had my Cube Litening HPC for 6 yrs, probably long in the tooth now. Running on 6770 10speed DI2. It wasn't an off-the-shelf bike but with components selected by the previous owner.
It's been flawless. Couldn't be happier.
Never been to Germany myself, but I hear that Cube is extremely popular there. Especially with its new range of e-bikes.
