Low volume custom kit makers?

Postby Ross » Mon Sep 06, 2021 8:38 pm

Thinking of getting a custom kit made up for my partner and myself for a charity ride next year.

So only two kits, bib shorts for me, non-bib shorts for her, a full zip short sleeve summer jersey with standard 3 rear pockets and probably a long sleeve thermal winter jersey as well.

Maybe a gilllet as well.

On a budget, but don't want Ling Long made in China crap, but don't want Assos either!

Does anybody know a kit manufacturer that could do this?

Ross - Scody have a few options for custom and I’m pretty sure it was one of the very few Aussie made brands when I was looking around https://www.scody.com/content/8-about-scody-custom

I’ve picked up a cheap jersey or two and like them but can’t help on how they go with custom stuff.

A large number of companies will do custom for you Pedal Mafia, Cat1 and Coure Australia are local ones I know of and there are plenty more. But expect to pay a hefty premium to get a single jersey, bibs etc. It is a lot of work to set up for a single product. I vaguely remember getting told a couple years back $500 for a single skin suit, but five $250 each.

Cuore will be a bit more expensive, but they are very nice quality.

Unfortunately pretty much all of the options will likely be costly.

I think Black Sheep Cycling on the Sunshine Coast do custom jobs but don't know about pricing.

You might want to take a look at Soigneur semi-custom jerseys: https://www.soigneur.co.nz/category/58381

Sure, they're up there price-wise, but I believe they can do your text of choice on their standard jerseys within their normal jersey price. And they're wool, which is awesome.

No knicks or gillets though, I'm afraid.

You can also try Prism Singularity (they do both men’s and women’s)

https://www.prism.bike/pages/find-your-singularity-mens

It’s not full full custom, but you can do your own logos and pick from a large range of base designs and colours. There are a number of options for the level of kit based on your budget.

I have a number of the Jerseys done via this method, including my Graveleur jersey (https://www.prism.bike/products/mens-si ... -graveleur)

They also do full custom, I am just not sure on whether there is a minimum order (I don’t think there is, but obviously the price for just a one-off full custom kit will be high). Other kit designers like Scody have minimum orders (a bugbear because that is who Audax uses and I find it hard to get a race cut jersey because they need others to do the same)

Although not obvious from the website, Hillbrick has just done a short run of jerseys for Hillman Frames, and is about to do some bibs. Don't know what minimum order is.

Pedal Mafia also do custom stuff, very good quality (they make some of our race apparel) but not what you would term 'cheap', although more reasonable than some.

Apparently these guys do low volumes for reasonable prices: https://www.sub4.com.au/

Based in Hawthorn, Vic. No first hand experience, sorry.

Pedalare in Perth is worth considering.

Sizing is pretty accurate and can do minimum of 5.

Have had a few custom kits from them.

As there is a premium, can I suggest asking for samples… both to check the size and the style / quality. They may require a refundable deposite (and postage at your cost) but getting it right can be worth it.
