Hi all,
Looking for advice please on buying a bike online for Sydney to Gong Ride and commuting about 20km. Currently have an old Giant Seek 3 that's ready for the scrap yard. Loved the bike tho...
Was thinking of getting either:
Reid Urban X3 Hybrid Bike $899
https://www.reidcycles.com.au/collectio ... bike-black
2021 Polygon Path 3 Urban City Bike $799
https://www.bicyclesonline.com.au/2021- ... -city-bike
Giant CROSS CITY DISC 1 $1099
https://www.giantsydney.com.au/au/cross ... isc-1-2022
I'm pretty new, but read that the Shimano Deore and Shimano M396 hydraulic disc brakes on the Reid were great specs for the cost. I currently have 28c tyres on my Seek and think i will prefer thin wheels. I also think a lightweight with good gears for the hills of the GongRide would help. However the Reid is out of stock (for a while). Should I try bicyclesonline which seen to have plenty of stock?
Any recco's please?
Thanks in advance
John

I think you might find that most shops are low / out of stock. The first 2022 Giants seem to be expected late August and Giant has only started loading the first 2022 models on to their website last Friday - I am waiting for a Roam 1.
The new stock seems to be starting to drift in now, but in limited numbers (apparently only 3 of the 2022 Giant Roam 1 Small bikes for QLD before Christmas), so I would suggest picking something (probably sight unseen) and paying a small deposit (I paid $$50) to get it ordered for you to ensure supply. Not sure about Bicycles Online as they seem to have shown bikes in stock right through (when I have looked).

The Giant (IMHO) is not really worth $300 more than the Polygon at RRP. A carbon fork is nice, but for most use it won't make a huge difference. Chuck some 32 tyres on the Polygon and it would be nice. I wouldn't put 28s on it, with that fork you run the risk of it feeling too rigid with the alloy fork. The Reid specs are nice, but if there's no stock, then you're kinda stuck. Of course, it's easy to spend your money. Any chance of test riding them someplace? Polygon do a 14-day return period (but "Bikes can be unpacked and assembled for sizing and inspection purposes only. Bikes cannot be taken on test rides, where the bike can suffer wear and tear.")
Supply will be the key. 2021 models are probably all but gone, and 2022 stuff will go quick. Sign of the times.

Thanks family guy and Andy! Much appreciated.
Didn't realise there was such stock shortages. I will have a relook at the Polygon with fatter tyres. No test rides in Sydney at mo..
Will also check to see when stock is coming at some of the local bike shops or online (but that seems hard to get real info).
Man, I wanted to go riding this week. No patience...
Cheers
