NBD........ In 4 months
Postby troiks75 » Mon Jun 07, 2021 10:20 am
Just put a refundable deposit down on a Trek Domane SL5 (grey/orange) and was given an ETA of late October.
The shortages are still in full swing according to some bike shops so I am not to put out by having to wait. The Domane almost has the correct reach for me (will be perfect once i put on short reach bars) and I like the design philosophy of comfort being prioritised over weight.
Anyone else has a NBD coming up?

The weight is the one concern - 9.5kgs vs a Canyon Endurace SL7 at about 8kgs. As a 90kg+ rider, not sure I should be worrying 1kg on the bike though. I am thinking the comfort of the isospeed and 32mm tyres is worth the weight?
Currently riding a Madone 3.1 2016 model which I have put about 7000kms on since buying from gumtree 12 months ago.

Nice ride. Takes a small-knobby 40mm.
What bar you thinking of?

shortens the reach by 10mm and the bars are swept back somewhat hence the 'ergo' in the name

Ergonomic bars are listed as such due to the flattened section in the drops where the hands sit when using them.
Some don't like them but they work for me too.

Thanks for clearing that up, i thought it was due to the angle, the flat tops are a great idea
I had no idea about bars in general until doing a bike fit, these were recommended by the fitter. I am very happy with them.

Referring to the section in the lower part of the bars (drops) where the bar has a less curved section where the hands sit.
This may be a better photo of ergo bars.

that is interesting, both flat top but the second set with 'ergo' features on the drops. Looks like 'ergo' may be a loose term in the industry, however it is a good direction, anything which makes then ride more comfortablewarthog1 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 2:00 pmSorry, don't know if I did clear that up

I almost never use the drops as I don't ride aggressively or fast. The only time I will use them is riding into nan strong headwind.

Looked at Canyon website because of your post.RonK wrote: ↑Sat Jul 10, 2021 4:58 pmHad mine - new Canyon Grizl arrived Monday after a month wait - and a month earlier than originally expected. Sold out until November now

Was fancying a Grail with Di2 at 5499, now noticed it has gone up to 5799 (up 300 in the past couple of days!)

All brands are pretty much the same - in fact I think Trek were ahead of anyone in planning for the pandemic.

I rang renegade cycles in lane cove, he said we can get you a bike in 2023. I didn't even ask what type. Was a but rude about the asking a question.
Concord bikes has 2021 leftover stock.
I got lucky when I called Giant Sydney store and they had some TCR Advanced Pro's coming into stock in next 2 weeks. Seems I was super lucky with my size...they guy was super friendly there and said other bikes coming in from October for the 2022 range..
So I suspect we are at that ackward time between 2021 and 2022 models with them starting to come September/October onwards. Plus with covid all dealers are just wanting any bikes to sell as supply is tight.

Me too. Frame is the holdup, or more specifically, the T47 tooling.
Been 12 months since deposit paid, but still happy to wait a bit more ….. Have all the other bits waiting to go

Got most of the groupset but right shifter is hard to come by. Clearly no rush for that just yet. Cassette and bottom bracket are also absent. Bars and stem also appear to be in varying levels of supply. I may use some old alloy ones initially if the ideal set are not available right away.
Probably going to use some Parcours Strade wheels but not committed to those yet. https://www.parcours.cc/collections/thi ... cts/strade

The ride quality with iso speed is fantastic. did a few test rides on rough surfaces that I usually ride on and the difference was night and day compared to my Giant Contend AR1
