"The Victorian government is making urgent representations to the Commonwealth over reports that hit-run driver Puneet Puneet has gone missing in India ahead of his expected extradition to Australia to face sentencing.".........................
"The Herald Sun reported on Monday that Puneet has gone missing in India, according to his father Naresh Kumar.
The report says Puneet was due to face court today for one of the last hearings before being extradited to Australia"

Bearing in mind that the family had been supporting him in his hiding for five years, making false representations to the police all that time that they had no idea of his whereabouts, any bail should have been prohibitive. Something life changing if they ever had to cough up.
Unfortunately the bail was a $4,000 bond. Hardly a big issue for the relatively comfortable family.
I hope the authorities give anyone associated with him a strong and unpleasant time until such time as they get him back in custody.
A condition of his bail set in 2013 (from memory) was to maintain a contactable phone.Puneet's family has told police he is missing and reportedly said he had sold his car and disappeared with the cash.
AAP rang Puneet's father on two numbers given by local police only to find both numbers switched off.

Something to keep in mind : These stories are sometimes just hearsay. I note that it was about three months after bail was granted that he had gone missing again. I don't know if he was but, if he was, he was back to court shortly after.

The fugitive has been found

Panchkula Police Inspector Joginder Singh told AAP they were trying to locate Puneet based on scant information provided by his father when he turned up at the police station on Wednesday.
"They [Puneet and his married girlfriend] ran off to Gurgaon (out the outskirts of the Indian capital). When the money [from selling his car] ran out, he came back. He turned up here with his father, who had filed a missing person's complaint. He didn't have much to say for himself," Mr Singh said.
He added that Puneet's life seemed to be in shambles.
"His wife has left him because of the girlfriend, the girlfriend has left him and his father seems fed up with everything.
"It's obvious that he is disturbed because he knows for certain that he will eventually have to face his punishment in Australia. He knows that," said Singh.
Police are taking no action against him.
Poor Man's life is in a shambles and his wife doesn't like his girlfriend.
The fact that his father is fed up with him bodes well for him finally being extradited as surely the money for lawyers has to run out sometime. Puneet sold his car for $8000 to finance this latest escape, so it sounds like he has few cards left to play.

Eventually he will be enjoying a long rest at the expense of the Australian tax payer but it won't happen until they actually send him back to Australia
The Yahoo News article states that there were 30 million cases pending in the Indian courts before they were closed by COVID a month ago, so no-one will be holding their breath.

With the never-ending frustration that the Hofstee family and friends must feel at every turn, I hope that they glean some joy in the total and well deserved stuff up this fool has inflicted on himself and his family. Farcical.
Regardless of extradition, the odds of Puneet ever making his life anything but miserable are not looking great.

The case against that Israeli teacher accused of a crime against school girls in Australia is a memorable one.
And the case of a motorcyclist in England getting killed by the lady that incorrectly claimed to be a diplomat from the USA is another.
Pompeo himself is stopping it. And this seems to have been a pure accident. But retribution is not a certainty.
Make you wonder at the flustering now over the Assange party, and why England doesn’t use it as a lever; but maybe they are behind closed doors.

Harry Dunn's alleged killer DID NOT have diplomatic immunity
Harry Dunn's family have been told that his alleged killer did not have diplomatic immunity, according to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Anne Sacoolas left England following the collision in August 2019 that claimed the life of the 19-year-old.
She had been driving on the wrong side of the road near at RAF Croughton, Northamptonshire, when she struck Mr Dunn's motorcycle head-on, authorities said.
The 43-year-old was able to leave the UK on September 15 along with her husband, Jonathan, a US intelligence officer at the military base used by American forces.

The university of Wollongong student had to surrender his passport and the judge released him on bail.

On a related case, on the 18 October Malka Liefer, the ultra-orthodox Jewish alleged pedophile was found, after many years of legal wrestling, to be able to be extradited to Oz.
I am assuming that is, short of appeals to a higher court or executive interference/mercy, the final step prior to actually putting her on a plane. Someone may be able to clarify this.

While the news items I have read make no suggestion of it, I suspect that it is one more tactical move to avoid what looks to be her inevitable extradition. I can't imagine her not being granted time to defer judgement while she seeks new representation and even more time for that representation get up to speed.
There are all sorts of ways to screw around with the judicial processes, something that we are seeing in spades in the cases of Liefer and Puneet.

Just looking at how the systems seem to be run and the likely outcomes. Nothing to do with differing allegations of cases.

It's been thirteen years since Leifer was flown out in the dead of night to safe haven Israel by her unscrupulous employing school just as Victorian authorities were being made aware of her (alleged) crimes. Now, hopefully, she does not drag it out much longer by gaming the laborious Australian legal system.
It's been eleven and a half years since Puneet absconded from Australia to India. Here's hoping that this is a portent of things to come with regards to Puneet.

It took 6 years to get the lady out of Israeli. How long has it been now with Puneet?

Didn' t they just clear the fans that got ejected? Unless that now means we are more racist as we excuse racism against some people but not others?redsonic wrote: ↑Thu Jan 28, 2021 7:32 amAnother attempt by lawyers to claim Punneet will not be safe in Australia because we are all racists. around 12 requests per year & ~75% successful, but they don’t mention the average time.
As for Punneet, I still think the Australian government should, as an act of compassion, allow him to serve his time in an Indian prison
