I did this look at this when I was getting my BMC - I have a 2019 RM02 Three.
I note in another thread, you fitted 28mm tyres, but what is the measured size, and is there more room for anything bigger ?
Unsure on measured size, need a set of calipers but will give it a go by eye later. They are slightly larger than my 28mm external wheels so would hazard a guess at them being 30mm, and there is some room on the outside. Based on the Cyclingtips first ride review here, there is clearance for 33c tyres, while I think the 2019 model I have is 30mm tyres officially.

If there was one available in that spec and that price, I'd probably consider it ...but what is the difference between the "RoadMachine", and the "RoadMachine 02" frameset ?

e.g 99bikes have the following ;
Roadmachine 02 Two (2020) $4,679 - Ult Mech Hyd
Roadmachine 02 Three (2020) $3,599 - 105 Mech Hyd (presume the 'One' is then DA ?)
Roadmachine Three (2021) $5,044 - Ult Mech Hyd, but 2021 version
Roadmachine Four (2021) $3,783 - 105 Mech Hyd, but 2021 version

And if you look at the BMC website, there is the 2021 version of Roadmachine and Raodmachine 01, but are the frames the same, or just spec differences ? :?
I did this look at this when I was getting my BMC - I have a 2019 RM02 Three.
The main difference between the RM01 and RM02 (now just Roadmachine) is carbon layup and the ability on the RM01 to completely route cables internally using a different steerer (I think).
I'm not a huge fan of the current colour schemes, the some of the 2019 ones looked pretty good. I'm considering a repaint/wrap when I get sick of it to something like the 2020 Teammachines
From the 2020 models, the frames are exactly the same for the RM01 and 02. Only difference is the ICS cockpit on the RM01.
Didn't realise that, I know its a different fork with a flattened steerer allowing for internal cable routing.
If thats the case, the jump from RM to RM01 isn't great value given the 3.5k between the Roadmachine One and the RM01 Four

Cheers.

Reckon that applies to the 2021 models ?
Well the description of both 2021 models (now called the Roadmachine 01 and the Roadmachine) says "Premium Carbon chassis".

Another brand to consider - Niner - they tend to be a little ahead and are very much into the Gravel cross-over

I looked up that bike, it's very nice. Then saw the SLR9 E-Tap:

https://www.trekbikes.com/au/en_AU/bike ... uedark_red

Segafredo by Zanetti. I hardly need any more reminders of how I drink too much coffee. :) The Matte Onyx Carbon one looks good until you see the close up photos of it. My Canyon also looks similar at certain angles and light. It looks matte black from a distance, but close up you see it actually isn't painted at all, it's just clear coat.

Edit: The configurator: https://projectone.trekbikes.com/au/en/ ... daslr9etap

You can waste heaps of time with that! Best you don't look at the prices.

Shand Skinnymalinky, made-to-measure for no extra cost!!
https://www.shandcycles.com/shop/bikes/skinnymalinky
Reynolds 853 and Columbus tubing and a wound up fork is hard to beat, as $$ only matter in real life, would take all the extras, s and s couplers, muddies, rack, dyno hubs with lights, would also grab the steel fork at the same time so painted to match. Not sure about the campy stuff but would take it, ride and see, would drop in as much Hope bits as poss like stem and seatposts and the anno spacers bling bits they do so well.

My head hurts !!!

In reply to some of the suggestions:

Miner - will look into more, but bike is aimed at road, just bigger tyres, not really Gravel.
Trek - crappy website, but will look closer as I think they do sell frame sets. And g-boaf, it May only be money, but only have so much.
Shand - interesting, but not really after a tourer style, but will look closer.

On a side note, BiL bought a Canyon, and think it’s the Endurace CF SL disc Ultegra, but not sure. Getting to be too many acronyms and variants that I’m not sure. Delivery is Oct though !!!!

Given the financial impact of the virus, I’m nervous about paying up front for delivery in 2+ months, so hence the caution about the Bowman frame.

May keep looking and snapping up sweet deals & offers I see around, but the frame itself may take a while.

An example is something like a Roadmachine at 105 spec comes up at a good price, may replace some key bits to get it to the spec I want.

Standby to standby !! Have money to spend !!

That frame material and what tyre clearance. Set those in stone first.

Don't bother with the Trek frames, I've already looked into them last year. They are very expensive. Top level frames are around $5K, and those special colour schemes are extra, a fair amount too. Also, a Project One custom build is not just off the shelf, you won't get it right away. But I will give them credit, you can configure some beautiful colour combinations.

I looked at the top Emonda frameset last year. It was very, very costly. So I went Canyon and got a great frameset at much less money. I would have saved potentially ~$1.5K against the Trek frame.

Yep, not fussed about frame material, but the fixed items are disc brakes, sweet paint, quality and decent tyre clearance (30-32mm).

Oh, and affordable. Can be used too !

BiL's new Canyon is the Endurace CF SL Disc 8.0 Aero Di2 for a sweet $6.6k.

He's happy, so that's good. Swallowed a fair bit of the marketing kool aid, but it's his money and a tad jealous. Won't quite be following suit.

Found a potential frameset that looked the goods, a Flanders Zero, but max tyre size is 28mm. Bugger.

Next thought was the Parlee Altum, but again, max 28mm tyre :?

Any other good suggestions ?

EDIT : Spied another option that's a bit left field - Ridley Fenix SL (2017) NOS frame (AT) $1,499. Hmmmmm, right geo, 30mm, disc, TA, price is good, paint scheme :?

Yep, was a rim brake with Chorus 12sp groupset (F&F + Groupset only) used for $2.2k on faceberk

Here is a pic of the Ridley Fenix mentioned above

Well, things have changed.

After looking at many, many options, the Palace got a shove down the order as paying in full now and waiting for 3 months for delivery is a financial risk, given the viability of many businesses changing really quick.

The Ridley FenixSL ended up off the list as the colour scheme was naff and the BB is a BB86 which isn't ideal.

Many others fell over either on price, tyre size limits or wrong size.

So an email conversation has started with Darrell. Now the only decision is Crescendo or Colossus

Probably Discus Colossus is what I'll end up with, either Bowman Orange Sherbert or Factor Burnt Orange.

Need to decide on Mech or Di2 for groupset. Anyone got a Di2 mini group going for a decent price ..... :?:

Nice bike :)

I like cable, because you can throw one of these on fairly cheaply if you plan to go climbing

Duck reckons the capacity is actually larger than the 34t listed on the specs.
At least that is what he said for my r7000 105 equivalent.

A bit of googling for Di2 pricing is just surprising the hell out of me. Man its EXPENSIVE !!! Ult Mech is $1,312 whilst the Di2 (R8070) matching version is a full $1k more !!!

Weirdly, the DA Di2 (R9170) vesrion is only $250 more than R8070 ? And Force AXS Disc is $2,473 (no crank tho), but want to stick with Shimano.

Hmmm, will need the extra time to save for it if i want to go Di2 or get used.

Di2 does do a gs derailleur at least.

I wasn't aware it did.
Love the 32-11 cassette and 52/36 chainrings.
Not sure short cage will run that.

Short cage will do 30T (per Shimano), but not sure on total tooth count.
$2
Just noted that Merlin also do a R8070 Gear Kit for $1,700, and misses out on the Crank, Chain and BB, which is no real deal, and may be the better option. Only bugger is that version also doesn't have the bar end junction box, but also if you wanted it (not in stock), it's an extra $238. :?

And that's before any other charges.

Locally, it's at least another $300 more if in stock

Yeah, it isn’t cheap at all. My E-Tap 11 speed was an upgrade kit, so I didn’t have to get cranks or cassette. But that was still $2.2K back in 2017.

Only way is to save, save, save.

That Ridley above has an ugly colour scheme. I knocked back the chance of a Cannondale Supersix Evo Hi-Mod with E-Tap 11 speed because it had a similar awful colour scheme. It was about $6.5K all up and light as a feather! If the colours were better I would have grabbed it. Such a shame.

I’m keeping a look a disc brake bikes, the Factor One looks tempting. Love the blue one:

https://factorbikes.com/product/factor-one-aqua-blue/

Also like the other one they have in gloss carbon/chrome:
https://factorbikes.com/product/factor- ... ome-gloss/

The sterling silver one is damn nice too:

I’ve been lucky enough the ride both Factors - the One and O2 when they were 1st released and had a good chat with Baden Cooke.

If I save and go electronic, it’ll be Di2 as that is more in my price range. eTap isn’t.

My favourite Factor is the O2 disc in Burnt Orange !

I should do the same to stay in the 11 speed system. E-Tap 11 speed and Shimano 11 speed are compatible. 12 speed is a bespoke beast of a thing.

Only other problem of Factor is that it would break the heart of my LBS, I do like them a lot and on the few occasions I’ve had my Canyon in there, they treated it with the utmost care. They are a Specialized/Focus/Cervelo dealer.

Alternatively just get another Ultimate CF Evo in the disc version, then I have both versions.

It would have to be a Bossi Summit

https://www.bossibicycles.com/products/ ... rance-bike

Only problem is I am about $10,000 short of the $10,300 I would need
Just saw this article today, nice looking bike:
The Bossi Strada SS is a titanium road bike that – uniquely – uses cast frame parts and hydroformed tubes, giving the frameset an almost carbon-like silhouette.
Image

The head tube, seat tube junction and rear dropouts on the frameset are all cast out of 6AL/4V titanium alloy.
Rather than mitring and welding the main tubes onto a conventional round head-tube and bottom bracket shell, these parts instead include ‘the roots’ of each tube. These parts are then sleeved into the tubes, welded and linished (essentially ground back with a belt sander) to a smooth and seamless finish.

The rear triangle uses typical welding around the bottom bracket and at the top of the seatstays.
The complete build as pictured – replete with SRAM’s top-end Red eTap AXS groupset, Bossi RD1R wheels and the aforementioned Vision cockpit – would set you back a heady $14,499 (approximately £7,985 / $10,445 / €8,835).
