Primer for bike riders: What to do if you are hit by a car

Postby AUbicycles » Thu Feb 27, 2020 9:51 pm

On BNA, we have just published an article which was penned by Sonia Hickey who is from Sydney Criminal Lawyers.

Article on BNA: If you’re a cyclist injured by a car, what happens next?

In the Australian Cycling Forums there is a wealth of knowledge which is share by and for all. The laws and options for riders who have been hit by car vary between the states and territories in Australia and the cycling community information is, despite best intentions, not a replacement for legal advice.

The information in the article by Hickey is written to be relevant to bike riders across Australia, while also recognising some of the differences in laws and process. It specifically covers the recommended steps that riders should take (when possible) following a collision from a car. This echos information shared in these discussion forums on detailed documentation.

It proceeds into reporting the collision to police, claiming compensation for injury and the options for Civil action (suing the driver for damages) and Criminal charges.
