Garmin Edge 810 rear cover/on off switch damaged

Postby gregmacc » Mon Feb 18, 2019 10:56 pm

The rubber on-off button portion of the rear cover has collapsed on My Edge 810. The button still functions but requires an awkward fingernail push. It will no longer be water proof. Has anyone been able to buy the rear rubber section of the case from a reliable source? Apparently it's a fairly straight forward procedure to replace it.

I've not disassembled an 810, but if it's anything like all the others I've attacked - it should be a doddle.

It's often easier finding a dead model on a marketplace and cannibalizing that. Upgraditis is a thing.

would a small amount of sika-flex on the inside of the case fix?

Mine broke yesterday and I fixed it this morning. It seems they all perish.

There is a youtube of fixing the button. Easy peasy. If there was a way to post photos easily I would.

I noted there are a few sellers out of HK on ebay selling a back cover (the bit with the button) and a speaker and battery for $33. The postage was very slow though.

Hi ValleyForge ... I hadn't considered finding a "for parts only" 810 ... good idea ... and yes, upgraditis is a thing, unless it's not :|

A_P ... Sika-Flex ... hmmm, possibly

oxonabike ... Sugru ... wow! looks fantastic

Comedian ... yep, seen some vidoes ... might try a HK ebay vendor, was hoping someone could actually vouch for a specific one ... don't mind waiting ... it's still working but wouldn't keep water/rain out in it's present condition.

Bunged Knee ... If I had the dexterity of a surgeon (which I don't) that could actually work ... for a while anyway.

I’m interested in those - replace the battery and back cover of my Edge 800 then retire the stupid 520.

Here is one of the ebay listings. There are several all selling the same thing. I haven't bought of this supplier. The search is "Garmin edge 810 back cover"

Further on this.. one of the garmin 810's I look after now has a broken power button (fixed), and broken tabs. The battery is also showing signs of failure. :o

So, $50 for one of those rear cases and i can fix all the problems. Has anyone else bought one?
