Behind BNA - Published Interview with founder Christopher

Postby AUbicycles » Thu Aug 29, 2019 4:39 pm

This may be of interest cycling forum regulars interested in knowing a little more about Bicycles Network Australia, how it started and why it started... and where it is headed.

I was invited by Felicity Dales from the Victorian based Body Torque (custom cycling wear) as a guest in the All Torque Cycling & Triathlon podcast. Previous episodes have included Stephen Hodge, Shane Miller (GPLama), Hugo Davidson (knog), Matt Keenen and Rupert Guiness.

Podcast: All Torque Episode 54 - Christopher Jones with Felicity Dales

Topics include:
- My Background
- Principles of Bicycles Network Australia
- Australian Cycling Forum overview
- E-Bikes and Cargobikes
- Cycling in Europe compared with Australia

Listening options include Apple Podcasts on iTunes, Stitcher and Spotify and it can also be heard directly on that page and downloaded. There is also a shortened transcript.

Christopher

If you listen - don't forget to make a comment or like as the Podcasts provide great insights into different cycling personalities and the positive reinforcement also helps drive more interviews.

And finally, a word on Body Torque - the business has been operating for 30 years and they have some contemporary off-the-shelf cycling kits and also do custom cycling wear for teams and clubs. I have not worn the kit yet myself though we have reviews in the pipeline and if you are planning some team kit, give Felicity a call and get a quote.

Would have been hilarious if the site went down on a DDOS just after you posted this..

I have been working hard to get those problems sorted... there is a lot of blocking going on and other fine-tuning so the site has become stable again.

Glad you found it interesting.

What I found interesting is that I actually got to know a lot more about Christopher and his background.

Still bloody jealous that he’s in Germany having a great time !!

There is MUCH more than that - proper Prezten for a start, then there is the Speck, sausages (and the good senf to go with it), Spaetzle (the proper Bavarian version), herrings, there was Bier (don't drink anymore :| ) etc

Food is a common theme, hence one of the reasons why I ride …..

Definitely Spätzle, Bratwurst and Sauerbraten mit Knodeln as the things I miss most...and Leberkäse (actually I miss this badly).

You can't get decent fish and chips... and especially when you are away from the oceans.

Any German bakeries / butchers in Melbourne? There was a good one in Sydney, expensive but with all of the traditional foods.

And if you haven't tried Handkäse mit Musik... then you are missing out. Add some Äppelwoi and it will be a fun evening.

So glad that Cargo and utility/transport cycling got a good rap in the Podcast Christopher...lucky we got that part of the forum up and running

Great interview, congrats on 20 years of hard work!
