Touring Bicycle Related Gear Specials

Postby Aushiker » Wed Nov 15, 2017 3:41 pm

We have an interesting gear thread and a camping gear specials thread, so I thought it might be of interest to have a touring gear specials thread. A place to share bargains which may be of interest to touring cyclists but which are not camping specific.

To get the ball rolling, Sella Anatomica have a special on their X1 and X2 leather saddles due to an embossing error. Details here

And check out the red X2's. With the winter25 code, a bit cheaper again.
My order is in. Great saddles

LiitoKala Lii-202 USB Battery Charger USD $2.59 (AUD $3.41) Delivered (AT) GearBest

Review: http://lygte-info.dk/review/Review%20Ch ... %20UK.html

and: http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/sho ... la-Lii-202

Make your own mind up as I don't know more than I read from a quick peruse of one of the reviews.

Reading reviews of the seller, be aware their stuff is generally coming from China with an inherent long delivery time.

Over a month is not unusual.

This will be my first purchase from the seller so know no more than you at this stage.

I though one might make a useful addition to my dyno/usb charging system on my bike though if it proves unworthy, not a large investment to throw out.

Specials from this company last days at most so if your tempted, flash the plastic quickly.

A quick reminder to everyone that eBay has 20% sales on some items.

The special finishes in some hours from now.

I picked up a garmin unit.

A list of suppliers can be found on the eBay front page and the current code I believe is PING20

This arrived safely yesterday so approx one month as expected although I've heard of stuff coming from China taking double this time span so won't be buying any larger ticket items via a Chinese company due to not having the patience.

I've so far charged four batteries with no issue via a usb wall output and the next step will be to attempt charging via my e-werk to see if its possible.

I don't think any of my items use AA or AAA batteries but I thought for <$5 I'd give one a whirl to open up more possibilities.

Gee they sold out very quick.

I decided last night that one more wouldn't hurt, especially at that price, but they had sold out.

Not a biggie as I have a new one anyway, as well as a couple of older ones, but I was surprised at just how quickly they went.

I've seen Big Sky generate a few comments so when I spotted Massdrop had one of their tents I thought someone might be interested.

The company has roused some polarising opinions in other forums so I'll look forward to reading any comments here:

Big Sky Evolution 2P Tent $299.99 US (approx 371.09 Au according to xe.com)

I have owned a Big Sky tent in the past. Was a decent tent by all accounts. I moved it on for the Tarptent Scarp 1. I believe a lot of the issues with Big Sky has and maybe still is getting the product actually delivered.

Also I think their website needs updating ... I looked recently when shopping for a tent and eventually gave up. Just couldn't be bothered trying to sort through it all to get the necessary specifications.

Bought something from them once and never again.
Months later I was still phoning and emailing them to withdraw the item from their site as their sizing was way wrong.
Whilst I did eventually get a full refund it was an extremely painful process involving many phone calls and emails.

Bike-Components in Germany www.bike-components.de have Tubus New Expedition Racks for 27 euros. I can't find out much about them other than that they look like a wider version of the Logo Evo for OEMs. Postage is a flat rate 20 euros so you may as well load up with some other stuff...

Racks turned up... looks the goods, excellent if you need a rack for a bike with fatter tyres, ie MTB on a 29er.... Rails are 8mm CrMo. Dimensions: From the mounting eyes to underside of rack platform is 355mm, width inside the stays at the platform is 105mm. Stay spacing suits a Surly Troll with Gnot Boost 145mm perfectly, reckon it'd pull in to 135mm no worries, in that case the stays would be close to vertical.

Thanks for the info, I've had the rack in a shopping cart for a while but couldn't find anything about it on the tubus web site. Might give it a go for my new bike.

Actually, rails are 10mm, not 8mm!

Can you post a pic of it mounted Trev? Trying to picture how it will fits over a 29er wheel.

I've got it on a Troll on the lowest mount near the axle, and the back stay clears the Extra Terrestrial tyre by 30mm and 40mm under the platform. I reckon on an Ogre you'd want to use one of the two higher up mounts. If you had too, you could cut out the stay linking the two back loops I reckon as that seems to be closest to the tyre , this is the only Tubus rack that has it. It's probably closer in dimension to a 26" rack than a 29er it has similar height dimensions to the 26" Logo Evo, but is a shed load wider. The Surlys with all the higher mounting points would take it...

Now I've measured it, it's about closest to the 26" version of the Tubus Locc, but with all 10mm tube and a couple of extra bits. The stays are bolted to the rack at the pannier rail level, not the top, if you were running 3" tyres you might need to bolt them on the outside of the rack and bent them in to the top stay mounts.
