Hi all new forum user.
I was cycling alone today (South Aus) and a group of riders cycling past me on the oncoming lane yelled something along the lines of "spin it up" or somesuch. I haven't heard the term so I was wondering, insult or no? Plus is there any other south Aussie lingo I don't know?? Im from up North :p
Cheers all, happy pedalling.
Insult or compliment? Or otherwise?! :)

Likely they noticed you pushing a very high gear.
They are encouraging you to use a lower gear and pedal (spin) faster.
So neither insult nor compliment, just advice and encouragement.

^^ This. It was a bit of friendly advice to make you a better cyclist and save your knees.
I run a power meter on both my road bike and my race mountain bike. I have observed I put out higher power numbers with a lower rate of perceived exertion (less distress) for longer if I choose a lower (easier) gear and turn the pedals at a faster rate to compensate. The result is I go up hills faster and flog myself less, and can last longer.
While not true for all people, it is true for most people. Typically I average 85rpm for a ride but on the hills I am doing 100-110rpm.
Does that make sense?.

Random, unsolicited advice from a bunch of strangers heading in the opposite direction in Adelaide. They weren't wearing Vegan jerseys by any chance? Sounds vaguely familiar
