It changed at midday. The ad stated it was until midday on 1 September. I foolishly ummed and ahhed and didn;t decide until just before midday and by the time I had my credit card details in it was too late.

I bought one on Saturday morning when the email first came out. I was just back from my ride and sucking the data out of the Garmin into Strava, had a quick look at email, saw the light and bought immediately. It hasn't arrived yet but I haven't been told there was any problem with the sale, will report back if/when it arrives.

Yes i bought a magellan 105 and it was fine except for a few annoyances which forced me to go to Garmin. Not sure if the 505 would share the same problems, but that is a really good price for it

My 105 reset itself one too many times and it lives at the rubbish tip now. Magellan was not much help at all. When it was working it was good though. Obviously not a 505, but Magellan support want great. Haven't used Garmin yet, but get with the strength and all that.

First you have to understand that the 505 is not a carbon copy of Garmin - it takes fundamentally different approach centered primary on navigation. This mean the mix of training features is adequate but not extensive. You won't for instance find a lap function - something that many would take for granted. Navigation though is far superior to Garmin.

Just like Garmin, the 505 has a few bugs and inaccuracies, none of which are deal breakers, but Magellan support has been painfully slow to release bug fixes. This remains the greatest frustration for owners since what is essentially a very good device is hampered by issues that should be quickly and easily fixed.

However in hindsight, Magellan support has been better than I got from Garmin at a similar point in the product development lifecycle. Owning an Edge 305 was an unforgettably bitter experience.

So the 505 should be appealing to those who want to tour unfamiliar locations, or perhaps to ride the parcours of the Giro, TdF, or Vuelta, without getting lost. But as a navigation device, perhaps the biggest flaw is that you cannot currently change the preloaded maps. This feature has been promised but like everything else it's been a long time coming.

My advice - if navigation is your thing the 505 is a good choice but support will test your patience.

If you want a training aid get a Garmin. The 520 is beginning to look like one of the most sound devices Garmin have ever released, with very few issues identified so far.

Thanks for the info. Pulled the trigger on it. More recreational rider so don't really train thus never used the lap function.
For $200 + free HRM seems a steal..
Looking forward to using maps and trying new places without getting lost or having to stop and check my phone all the time (using a Edge 500 atm)

So far so good, put in for the free HRM, fitted the speed and cadence sensor and linked, fitted the out front mount. Downloaded the software, updated the unit, registered, linked to Strava and Endomondo, linked via Bluetooth to the phone, which links navigation instructions to your headphones and allows you to control music, read texts and answer calls from the unit with your phone safely away. Fairly impressed so far, not used in anger yet, will see how it goes on the road tomorrow morning

I just ordered a Cyclo 505 from JB Hi Hi. I did own one for a while and returned because it occasionally wouldn't generate Surprise Me random rides, but for $199 I can live with slight imperfection. I am not interested in Strava or phone integration, it's the really good navigation I want. Let's hope Magellan get their act togrther and fix a few bugs.

Cell Bikes have their leg warmers for $24.95. Winter is (apparently) ending but this is a pretty good price and this winter my pair have served me well. Armwarmers for $12.95.

Have the days of the free shipping offers disappeared?

I've been waiting to get some cleats, and don't really need anything else at the moment to get the $80 or $100 no shipping threshold that many places offer (yes, restraint!!).

Cheers,
Simon.
